Room 02 - The Bomann Museum

The idea of founding a museum in Celle arose as early as 1877. It was not realised until 1892, on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the town. As the first chairman of the sponsoring association, Wilhelm Bomann played a decisive role from 1898 onwards. In terms of content, he was strongly influenced by the ideas of the "Heimatbewegung". On the one hand, his exhibitions convey the image of rigid social orders with social romantic features, on the other hand, their design is visionary for the time.
